In The House

Well, will you get this!
Tommy says she really likes
THIS picture of ME!
How could she? I mean, I am SLEEP!
That's pretty suspect if you ask me.
You don't see my handsome
As big as saucer eyes or my perk pink nose.
I am SLEEP for goodness sake!
Tommy says this photo reminds her
That I'm an angel in disguise
Huh?
I am SLEEP!
But when Tommy says all that stuff
She does smile and I like it when Tommy smiles
So, OK this must be all good
Angel in the house Tommy says
We're cats.

That's how we roll.

ManCat Monday

With a little bit of Mommy....
She takes care of all of us
Like Uncle MaxMaxx up above gets an ear wash
From Mommy who makes us the best ManCats ever
Like Brother Earl Gray below-
Who is a grown-up ManCat yet
And turns into a kitten when Mommy is around-
Marvelous Monday!

Easy Just Like Sunday

Brother Earl Gray takes a look at Tommy
He wonders her fascination with the camera too.
Always following us round with it
Brother cares less than ME
We've been fed..so..

Then it's my turn to look at what's
Before me and
NOT the camera!
When will Tommy LEARN????

Now Perry (not so cranky as much) even looks
At something--and not Tommy
He usually hogs the camera
So what our interest?

On to more important stuff --

Camera Cat

See Tommy try to be slick
To snap a picture of two handsome ManCats
Posin' pretty in the window
Especially if its ME with Daddy Peyton
Well, Tommy got blur and such
And....
See Tommy get a scowl from ME
For her attempt to interrupt our
Important Daddy and Son ManCat tme
Didn't Tommy see we were busy?
Should she have on bi-focals?
Windows woo our senses, you know
And...
See Tommy get so ignored by the
Two Handsome Mancats in the window
That's what you humans get when you try
To interrupt our important stuff for
YOUR Kodak Moment when we
Ain't quite feelin' that same moment
We're cats. That's how we roll.
Happy Saturday!

Friday Feels

We kinda gotta keep an eye on Tommy
Just like Uncle MaxMaxx does in this photo
May be Friday and Tommy's usual doing of that dance
Will be not as feisty this day-
Tommy mutters bout doing something called a 'moonwalk.'
Huh?
Google'd 'moonwalk' to see what it was-
Because whatever Tommy's moonwalk is-won't be what it should be!
Google told me stuff about a singer and dancer guy named Michael Jackson
WOW! That guy danced and walked backward aka "MOONWALK"!
Nope, Tommy ain't gonna be doing that!
Google said really good stuff and some really bad stuff
About Michael Jackson's success and personal life
Now I know why Tommy watched alot of news on TV
Thursday night and not the day's Young and the Restless episode
I heard Tommy say soft: I want to remember how it was before...
And I know why Tommy looked so sad
The guy Michael Jackson died Thursday afternoon
May a troubled soul now find the peace he's searched forever for...

Michael Jackson with a Thriller of a kitty.....

Tuxie Toot Sweet

Makes ya wonder what Mommy and Earl Gray
See out the bedroom window?
Probably the zillion backyard birds
Tommy feeds and gives drink
And to think those birds, especially
Mourning Doves sit IN or by the empty
Food tray and just wait...
Wait-come to think about it
That's what WE do!
Hmm. Now do the birds take a nap after
They eat Tommy out of house and home?

We do.
Eat. Sleep.
We're cats.
That's how we roll.

Shout Out On Wordless Wednesday

Notice my new banner?
Ann and the rest of our zoolatry pals
Gave me this when I just started my blog.
I really like it--and Tommy does too.
Perry, being sorta cranky- just hissed.
Whatever.
It's MY banner!

Thanks again, Ann-just forget
About Perry's cranky ol' hiss!
You did good!

Wordless Wednesday

Me being wordless on a Wednesday
As I take a gander at the ads
To see what Tommy can maybe get us
And below is Uncle MaxMaxx
Being wordless as he dreams about
A full food dish

Tuxie Orange Tabby Tuesday

Perry isn't so cranky as he use to be
Granted the two of us don't share any headbonks,
More like Perry bops me on the head or
When I think Perry sits too close to me,
I decide it's better get up and go.
Maybe Perry wants to be be friends-
The bop in the head still tells me otherwise.
Perry talks alot and Tommy seems to like it.
Whatever.
There's something to be said about a silent mancat
Like ME!
Anyway, Perry does and goes anywhere he pleases
Tommy doesn't seem to mind
I guess when you are an antique like Perry
You can do anything!
Perry's 8th birthday is July 4
Firecracker, indeed.

ManCat Monday and Goat

OK. I've gotten over the whole Tommy going to see other animals thing. She realizes we ARE the best animals around-so all is forgiven. I like this photo of me. Like I should be posing on a cat food label or something, huh? Good profile. Manly. Majestic. Hmm. If Tommy does ever write a book with a cat as its hero---well, I AM the hero plus cover boy.
Since Tommy came to her senses about other animals, I decided to be nice and post another photo of what Tommy saw. Kinda looks like a goat with really big horns.

Easy Just Like Father's Day Sunday

Went thru Tommy's pictures and found these-
Of Tommy when she was itty bitty kitten and her Daddy
Not really sure what that thing is Tommy reaches for and
Why is she covered all over-even her hands-
To be in all that white stuff? Like her own fur!
It's neat to hear Tommy talk about her Daddy, because
He LOVED cats!
Her Daddu liked to blow smoke rings from his cigar-
So Tommy's cats would try to bat at them!
When Tommy moved to Dallas 100 years ago,
Her Daddy missed Tommy's before ME cats, Morris and Millee
Around the house. They would greet her Daddy when he got home
From work. Liked that alot. Of course, Morris ate 4 of
Tommy's step-mother's love birds, but that's another post! :)
Thru the years besides, her Daddy eating anything Tommy made
In her Easy Bake Oven, they always did lotsa stuff together:
Take walks, movies, go fishing, talk over pancakes and just be-
Tommy's Daddy has been gone since 2001and misses him a bunch-
Sometimes now when Tommy and ME curl to watch Andy Griffith-
Tommy swears her Daddy's cigar smoke lingers in the air-
I purr to let her know it does-
As I bat at the cigar smoke rings
Happy Father's Day!

My Sweet Daddy Peyton
I love him

Wildlife Wander

Hmmphf!
Tommy jaunted off with her BFF today-
And I thought I was her BFF, not some other human
Tommy has known since both were 12 years old-
Ya know, back when dinosaurs ruled the earth!
They drove around some place where they could see
Lotsa different animals- like this Santa's reindeer-
What is Santa's reindeer doing in Texas--in JUNE?
Tommy says she saw a cousin of mine-a cheetah-
OK. Spots. Fast.
Yea, but am I not animal enough?
Nonetheless, Tommy tried to tell Perry all was fine-
Perry's secret Feline Powers made the picture turn out like this!
That's what Tommy gets!!

Tommy even tried to tell ME
She loved us (aka ME) more than Santa's helper....
Yea. Sure. Whatever.
I got Mommy to make it all better.

Feline Friday Box Step

As Tommy took pause from that dance she does every Friday,
She announced it's International Box Day-
So we must pose with a box.
OK, look--I do not perform on demand.
Tommy got ticked: Oh Baby Noir!
She pouted and looked pitiful,
Tommy tried to entice Me and Uncle MaxMaxx with
This piece of cloth once attached to a since long gone toy
We played along so and
This is the best Tommy's gonna get-
Happy International Box Day
And HAPPY WEEKEND!
Brawn and Boxes-this is how we roll!

June 18, 2009

Tuxedo Junction

Tommy is kinda starting to do that dance she
Only does on Friday and chants "Almost!"
While Mommy and Uncle MaxMaxx really
steal the scene today-
Amazed how close they still are-
Just like kittens-even with Uncle being
so 'big boned'-rompin' and runnin' and all
Like to see them together.
I hope my Brother Earl Gray and ME will
Always be that close.
On this day you get 2 Tuxedo Tabbies
For the price of one!
Bargain if there ever was one!
I love Mommy and Uncle MaxMaxx

Many blue bears on the savannah?
In this Texas jungle you do.
It feels good to be King.

ManCat Monday

What a way to start off a Monday!
Two of my favorite fantastic Mancats-
My Daddy Peyton and Uncle MaxMaxx!
See, the kicker is--
They pose in Tommy's litter box window--
The SMALLEST window in the house!
So HOW did they do it?
Uncle has lost some of his big boned-ness
But not THAT much!
Oh well. Doesn't matter!
They both made it
And they look pretty marvelous
Just like the ManCats they always are,
Especially on a Monday!

Easy Just Like Sunday

My Daddy Peyton
I asked Daddy Peyton what he thought
Two years ago when his babies (especially ME!)were born
"I heard y'all cryin'. And hoped all was OK."
Daddy Peyton said Tommy kept a close eye
On Daddy, Uncle and Perry because she didn't want
Them to think we were new toys and play too hard -
We four were so small, Daddy Peyton says.
"But I liked having y'all around." Daddy Peyton says,
"Even if y'all made so much racket!"
Unlike how Daddy Peyton is today-taking it so easy,
Just like on this Sunday!

Do I Gotta?

I want to nap.
Still celebrating my 2nd birthday.
Mommy says I can't.
Why?
Not until we curl with Tommy. Seems Tommy is tired.
She volunteered for some group of writers conference thing
And was up until midnight last night to ready for it-
I don't get Tommy and writing-what in the world does she write???
Anyhoo, Tommy had to be there about 5AM today to finish
Getting ready then volunteer the rest of the day.
Tommy fed us before she left so--well, whatever -
Wanna catch some zzzzz's since the a/c puts me to sleep
Just thinking about this almost 100 degree day makes me tired!
Mommy says -NO-We take care of Tommy.
Oh- all right.
Find some Andy Griffith on the TV and maybe
I'll find room for Tommy under the ceiling fan!

June 12, 2009

June 12, 2007 was Tuesday

The day my babies were born.

Hello all. This is Edie (aka Mommy). My son Noir has told you the 12th is his birthday. Well, yes, yes it is. Noir doesn't remember, but I sure do. Just wanted to share some with you on this special day.

That morning, I knew I was very close. Poor Tommy. She was in such denial I even had babies inside of me. I was so small, and runt like, Tommy thought I'd finally gained a couple pounds. I didn't bulge on my sides--well, I really think Tommy knew, but didn't want to know. And felt more guilt she didn't get us nip/tucked (I like that TV show and think it fits).

Anyway, that morning, I didn't eat. I hid behind a painting, Tommy had leaning against the wall, on the floor. She asked me if I wanted breakfast. I knew Tommy was worried, but all I did was meow. I was content. I knew my babies would be soon. I wish I could have told Tommy to ease her mind.

During the day, I just relaxed. I did get in a window for a bit. And when Tommy came home, I did greet her. I knew that made Tommy feel better. But I knew--while Tommy watched TV that night, I felt it was time. My babies were about to arrive. I was so excited! I slipped away from everyone, and went to my favorite get-a-away-from everybody-space, UNDER Tommy's bed. When we first moved in, and being kittens ourselves, this was a place we felt real safe until we knew Tommy really did love us. And tonight this was my safe place again.

My first baby boy came and began to cry as I washed him clean. Then my second baby boy arrived. In the midst of all this, I didn't realize Tommy peeked under the bed at us. I heard her say: "Oh wow, we have kittens! It's 8:12 at night, and I have kittens!" I didn't even think Tommy had heard my babies' cries.

I'd only been a Mommy for a little while but I loved it! My baby girl came and I licked them all and loved them as they got their first drops of milk. Tommy just sat on the floor. Silent. She peeked at us again and said, "Babies. What in the world am I gonna do?"

What Tommy did was: she got up and made us a space in her main bathroom. Big enough for our little family. Tommy called it our 'maternity ward'. I could be away from everybody and be with my babies. Then Tommy, who recuperated from from open heart surgery the year before, and wasn't permitted to lift anything the year before, now lifted up her mattress and box springs to reach us. I had nested in the center of the bed.

Tommy had a cat bed, already in the house. The same cat bed, me, Peyton and Max slept in when we first met Tommy. Before we moved in and Tommy had put it outside her front door for us. She thought the neighbors who really had us would take us back. They didn't.

On this night, Tommy handled us like crystal as she put us in the bed. Then Tommy carried us to our maternity ward. My babies cried, but I knew we were safe. Tommy placed us in our maternity ward. She'd already placed food, water, plus a litter box for me there. Tommy said a prayer, to help me and her with my babies. Tommy scratched my chin and told me how a beautiful Mommy I was. Tommy switched on a nightlight, closed the door and let us be.

The next morning, when Tommy checked on us and brought me breakfast, there was a fourth baby! Another boy was there! While the other three ate, the fourth baby snoozed in the corner. Ha! Earl Gray is the same way today. Everybody else can be doing one thing, and Earl Gray does another!

So that's what happened two years ago on this day. My first born son and daughter went to other forever homes, while my other two babies, Noir and Earl Gray are still with me.

I am blessed.

Thank you for reading,
Mommy (aka Edie)

Can Ya Hear Me Now?

Uncle MaxMaxx and Tommy's very old phone
Somehow Uncle fit on Tommy's desk
Will all the stuff ON Tommy's desk-I'm amazed
But Uncle couldn't just sit on the desk-
That would be such a big ol' no
Uncle MaxMaxx had to do what comes naturally:
Put something in his mouth!
Don't think this tasted as yummy as goodies in his bowl
Maybe Uncle MaxMaxx tries to tell
Tommy she oughta get a newer phone-
Ya know, one that ushers Tommy into the 21st Century
A phone where Tommy can put pictures of ME on it!
Hey, since she's got the day off
What more is Tommy gonna do?
Heavens knows house cleanin' ain't happening
How can it be when Tommy flops on the couch, a bowl of cereal in hand-
Clicks on the TV and turns to Regis and Kelly?
I woulda at least picked something on HGTV!
Humans.
Chew it up, Uncle!

Man Cat Monday

ME.
I am quite the mancat, you know
Still not looking all in the camera
But Tommy gets my pensive look.
See, Tommy is kinda doing that dance
She usually does on Friday TODAY!
Turns out she's off tomorrow
So means much more time with us...
Even tho Tommy says she's gonna clean our house
Sure.
Like I said, more time with US.

Easy Just Like Sunday

Brother Earl Gray and Uncle MaxMaxx
Not sure if Brother is being all cured up to Uncle
Or if Brother just doesn't wanna hear Uncle snore?
Any way, two of my favorite mancats make it
Look all easy as they take a well earned snooze
Pretty much as they do every day-
Just like on this Sunday

Sun on Saturday

Really planned to talk about ME today. Yep. How my birthday (and Brother Earl Gray's) is on June 12th. Just round the corner. Then I was gonna tell how I just refuse to meow for ANY reason. It drives Tommy mad. In fact Tommy asked me again today: WHY? as she cradled me in her arms, like a good human should do.

The last time Tommy heard me meow, was at Christmas. Yep, when she took me on a road trip to another human's house cross town. That human had a package that was delivered and he was outta town. So he asked Tommy to go get it. And Tommy decided to take me.

Wrong decision. I hollered ---er--meowed--the whole way. Since then not a peep. If Tommy doesn't do something like she should. I just stare at her and turn off the motorboat purr. Tommy gets the hint.

Yep, was gonna talk about all that, until I saw No So Much Anymore Cranky Ol' Sour Puss Perry in the window. He looked serene (I Googled the definition) on this Saturday, with the sun and window open. So I thought--well, he's old, I'll let Perry be poster boy again.

Enjoy Saturday!

Me at Christmas
