Friday Sad Turnaround

Uncle MaxMaxx Back in the Hospital
Hello Everyone--Tommy here.  It's been a knock you back on your paws couple of days here. I brought my baby big boy MaxMaxx home Tuesday night.  He was so glad to be home--ate, drank, tinkled, loved on me, bopped everybody else.  On Wednesday morning, he was SO ,much like himself--he jumped on my bed that morning, to give me the head bonks and cuddles I'd missed. Purred, did his figure 8's thru my legs as I got ready for the day.  By the time I went to work--everybody was in their spots for their day long naps. Although I knew that was normal, I always had a different 'vibe' this go round with MaxMaxx.

The doctor's office called to check on MaxMaxx too. He had done wonderfully up till then.  However, I think we all kinda knew 'something'.  Long story short, when I got home from work, Max didn't come to great me. That was very odd.  I went looking and found him stretched out sleep under my bed. I called his name, and his tail swished.  My doc's office was closed by then, otherwise he was going then--just to be sure. I decided I was taking him Thursday morning. If all stayed calm we'd be OK.

Wrong.  I heard MaxMaxx cry. I woke all the way up.  12:45 AM.  I never heard my baby cry like that. NEVER.  He was in by litter boxes. He'd try to go. The cries. There was an emergency clinic his doctor referred   Got the directions.  Through on some clothes--my hair was in curlers--and I took them down. Somehow I got MaxMaxx in carrier and off we went.  A trip that should have been 15 minutes turned into longer---why?  I got lost.  I went how the directions told me--no clinic.  Max was screaming and it's 1:30 AM on dark deserted streets.

I called the clinic number. Sweet Lauren gave me directions. I found out later they had MOVED. At the clinic, I am a basket case. Max is crying, panting--in such pain.I prayed and prayed. Telling Satan to get out of my cat--he can't have him."  I held MaxMaxx close while they did work up etc. Within in a few minutes, MaxMaxx was sedated and unblocked.  The vet on duty--a very nice woman, suggested the surgery, my regular vet spoke off.  I left Max resting at the clinic. I got home at 3 AM.

I picked up MaxMaxx Thursday afternoon and he's back at his regular doctor's office.  The doctor will talk to me about the surgery.  Neither Max nor I can go thru this and both be scared all the time.  I am not ready to lose my baby.

Depending on the cost of  Max's care, I may need to do something  I've never had to do is ask for donations. I will cross that bridge when I come to it--because I know God does provide.

In the meantime, please pray for my MaxMaxx and our family.

Love.
Tommy, Noir, Mommy, Earl Gray, Peyton and Mooch

***Update***  MaxMaxx has been eating well at the hospital. I will visit him tomorrow and speak to the Doctor on Monday about the possible surgery.  All his other vitals are great. Max does not have a fever--just this pesky block thing going on.  Thank everyone SO much for prayers, purrs and encouragement. :)

Oh how awful! - poor you and poor MaxMax; what a horrifying ordeal.

The main thing is that your sweet boy is stable right now. Please try not to look too far ahead and just take it one day at a time - where there is a will, there is a way.

Take good care

I'm getting all teary and panicky just READING this...poor MaxMaxx!!

You know the CB will stand by you two. Don't be afraid to ask, we will help however we can.

One of the cats over at Forty Paws had the surgery I think you are considering and it turned out perfectly.

We are so sorry Uncle MaxMaxx is still having issues. We are purring for him and hope he will be okay.

Island Cats' mom here...I have a friend whose cat had this surgery and he has done well. I'm keeping positive thoughts for Uncle MaxMaxx and you. Don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it. Perhaps we could do an auction on the CB to raise some $$?? Just a thought. Hugs to you, Tommy, I know how worried you must be.

We went thru this a few months back with our Snowball - he was blocked too after having many UTI's. Our vet did not want to do the surgery so she suggested no more dry food - just canned food and it worked. No more UTI's and Snowball lost weight too. I don't know what kind of diet Max is on but you might want to consider this before surgery. Purring for you both.

Oh my goodness! This is very difficult for both you and Uncle MaxMaxx. Yes, we agree with Island Cat's Mom, we could hold an auction, or you can put up a Paypal donation on your blog. We can definitely raise money for Uncle MaxMaxx.

Hugs to you and Uncle MaxMaxx.

Oh, no--Uncle Maxx is back at the v-e-t! We are revving our purring motors. The human is sending good vibes, too.

Pee Ess: The human says always contact the emergency vet to get directions because humans are airheads when their fur babies are very ill. The staff will also watch for you--especially in the middle of the night!

I saw on FB about Uncle MaxMaxx. What a time you've both had. I'm so sorry! I'm not sure but I think we may have the same vet. Maybe that's a leap but our vet is a cat-only vet in DFW and she's wonderful. Anyway, the CB is so supportive. I hope Uncle MaxMaxx isn't in as much pain and is doing better and hopefully you'll have a good idea about the surgery and what's best for him. I'll be praying for him and you!

Oh noes! We know how scary a blockage can be, cuz our sweet Brighton had his first and only urinary blockage in June 2010! We almost lost him and he had to stay in the ICU for 3 days! He has been fine ever since on a special food and a water fountain and some nutriceuticals for his bladder. Teri said you can call her anytime if you need advice or just a shoulder to lean on. She lost her day hunting job in June, so can't donate anything but we all are purrin' for ya!

We're purring loud and hard for MaxMaxx. We would be happy to donate items if there is a fund raiser auction.

We've just seen the news that MaxxMaxx is sick and have come to offer our purrs. Urinary tract blockages are deadly serious, as you know, so we're crossing our paws that surgery or other treatment will remedy this. Our Derry gets PetAlive.com's UTI-Free daily (granules you either put in the mouth or can sprinkle into canned food) for his bladder health. And of course his diet is almost entirely canned food, for the water content. He's had a couple of bouts of idiopathic cystitis, of course not the same thing as a blockage, but once MaxxMaxx is on the road to recovery, you might want to consider a supplement/additive.

Also, this VET-written site is a good resource; she almost lost one of her cats to a blockage a number of years ago:

Peace and Blessings to you both.

Hi, sorry to hear about MaxMaxx. You might want to consider putting a donation button on your blog, like Paypal or I think there are others also. Small donations can add up pretty fast and most of us cat lovers understand better than anyone how important our babies are. Hopefully you can get past this and your boy will be ok.

We are so sorry we hadn't heard about Max Maxx until today - if you haven't got a Paypal button try and get one put on your site and we can send donations to you - also if you have an auction the winning bidders can pay by Paypal.
We are purring hard for you and Max Maxx.

Oh guys, we're just coming back up to full speed again after mommy's health issues this past few months - and we saw on the CB that MaxMaxx was in the hospital!!

We're going to be purring real hard for you guys - and wanted to let you know that Teri of Curlz & Swirlz knows a great deal about this issue. So does Tails from the Foster Kittens (www.kittyblog.net).

Both can help you on the other side of the surgery so MaxMaxx hopefully never has to worry about this again. Our hugs to you!!

Sending purrs and good thoughts that you are feeling better and hop each day finds you back to your ole self.

Timmy Tomcat said...

So glad you did get him to the clinic. This is so very stressful. Our Angel Inky had a block and Dad had to take him to the emergency clinic. Dad had to call work and take off, the emergency room, and there was a big fight with the nurse manager who was yelling that he would be fired. He said there was a family emergency so... That was that.

Inky was fine for the next 20 years. Dad kept his job.

We will keep the purrs of support going until all is well
